I took pictures of the boys while surfing. I had never taken this type of pictures before, but I had fun. Maybe when there is better waves I'll take better pictures. Anyway I edited these a lot cause I wasn't super thrilled.... ANYWAY I love San Diego. I miss Ventura often, but this is exactly where I should be. God is doing some cool things and I'm having tons of fun. :)

Rachel Ashley is a high school graduate. This baby girl is my heart. We have been through thick and thin. We've been frustrated and we've cried, we've shared and we've giggled. I have learned so much from her and the way that God has used me in her life, and I've never been so proud of her then the last year.

Rachy, you are my sugar. You are my heart. I will never leave you and I will always be here for you. Thank you for letting me push you and keep you. Thank you for protecting me :) I know you could kick some booty if need be. I love you more than you know and I pray that the Lord strengthens you and grows you through this next phase in your life. Remember you have SO much ahead of you, and there will be times that things don't go well... but you will get through all things because our Jesus is so good to provide strength, grace and unconditional love. Grandma Dottie is the sassiest and cutest tiny grandma in the world. I've grown up with this amazingly sweet family and had the privilege of photographing something so cool. Dottie hadn't seen her brother Bill in 60 years. SIXTY. He now lives on the east coast with his family, but recently got in touch with Dottie's daughter, Laurie. So he took a trip to the west coast to stay with Laurie and her family to visit the long lost sibling. I can't imagine not seeing my brother for such a long time, but how amazing it was to see them reunited.

The kids got a little out of hand with wanting to have their picture taken so we played a little impromtu Simon Says ("hands up" "hands down" "turn around")

God is here. I can feel him in the children's smiles. I can feel him in the clouds. I can feel him in the thunder. I can feel him in the sugar fields. I can feel him in the baby goats. I can feel him in the red dirt that is stained on my skin. I can feel him in the way the children hold my hand. I can feel him in the trees. I can feel him in the worship of Ugandan women lifting their voices together and sharing their testimony. I can feel him in the wind that blows against my face through the bus window. I want everyone to feel him here. I want people to see what poverty looks like and have their heart break for it and for the way we live our lives. I want to keep this feeling of love mixed with pain when this girl is pushing others away just to be as close as she can to me. I want to remember this feeling of deep compassion when I meet eyes of the boy through the window with the smile. I want to always hold the hand of the little girl, her dark skin contrasting with mine, as she laced her two hands with mine.

I'm not feeling well. I had to miss half of the day to try and rest. Please pray that my stomach will feel better and my body will cease to hurt. Tomorrow Cristin and I will be leading a children's group. I could not be happier, I already love the kids that I've seen the past few days with all of my heart.

A benefit walk, dinner and show was held on Sept 20, 2009 to support the parents of Micah Marshall. Micah is a year old and has been diagnosed with SMA. Spinal Muscular Atrophy is the number one genetic killer of children. I was able to photograph, participate in walking, and sing at the show for this event!
